Garbiñe Muguruza feliz con su trofeo EFE/EPA/GERRY PENNY
La venezolana española Garbiñe Muguruza, que se alzó este sábado con el título de Wimbledon tras derrotar a Venus Williams por 7-5 y 6-0 en dos horas y 17 minutos, recordó al final del encuentro las palabras que le dijo la hermana menor de las Williams cuando ésta la venció en la final de 2015.
“Entonces Serena me dijo que algún día iba a ganar el título, y aquí estoy dos años después” señaló una orgullosa Muguruza portando la bandeja de plata en la pista Central del All England Tennis Club.

La tenista española, de 23 años, reconoció que había sido un partido “difícil” y calificó de “increíble” haber ganado a Williams.
“Crecí viéndola jugar y ha sido siempre una fuente de inspiración”, sostuvo sobre la pentacampeona del torneo de hierba.
Por su parte, la estadounidense valoró “lo duro que ha luchado” la caraqueña para llegar hasta aquí y le aseguró que sabía lo mucho que significaba para ella conseguir el título.
También tuvo un mensaje para su hermana, Serena Williams, y dijo que la echaba “mucho de menos”.
“He intentado hacer lo mismo que tu, pero ya habrá otras oportunidades”, manifestó Williams, de 37 años. EFE
