Unos 13 mil turistas bloqueados por la nieve en la estación de esquí suiza de Zermatt (fotos)

Las abundantes nevadas bloquearon a unos 13.000 turistas en Zermatt, una de las estaciones de esquí más exclusivas de Suiza, anunció la propia estación este martes.

La nieve cortó el lunes la carretera y la línea de tren que permiten acceder a esta localidad del cantón de Valais, en el sur de Suiza, donde también se registraron cortes del suministro eléctrico, declaró a la AFP una responsable de la estación, Janine Imesh.





Hay actualmente “unos 13.000 turistas en Zermatt”, explicó, mientras que la web de la estación advertía que “las llegadas y salidas no son posibles en este momento”.

Zermatt tiene una población de 5.500 personas y capacidad para alojar a 13.400 turistas en hoteles y apartamentos.

Pero los turistas bloqueados no podrán disfrutar de la abundante nieve por el momento debido al alto riesgo de avalancha en toda la estación.

“No se puede esquiar ni hacer excursiones pero es tranquilo, un poco romántico. No hay pánico”, comentó Imesh.

Las autoridades tenían previsto efectuar un vuelo de reconocimiento por la zona antes de decidir los siguientes pasos.

Varias carreteras de la región tuvieron que ser cerradas al tránsito debido a ríos de lodo, caídas de piedra o riesgos de avalancha, según varios medios suizos.

El riesgo de avalancha está en el nivel 5, el más alto, según la policía, que precisó que a partir de esta noche está previsto que cesen las nevadas, por lo que la situación debería empezar a evolucionar favorablemente, reseñó AFP.
