“There are more than 100 Venezuelans who have moved to Guyana (…) Our indigenous ethnic groups are the most vulnerable. This is in chaos,” he said through his Twitter account.
He stressed that the indigenous communities are in the worst situation, forgotten and neglected by the State and Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship and that is why they have been forced to leave their homes and emigrate to other countries in search of a better future.
Deputy Flores stated that they will continue working with the indigenous communities, and rejected the violence and the economic crisis.
The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) has expressed concern about the conditions in which Venezuelan migrants and refugees find themselves in neighboring Guyana, particularly the 2,500 members of the Warao indigenous community.
Guyana hosts some 24,500 migrants and refugees from Venezuela, just a small part of the more than six million who have left the country forced by the economic and political crisis the country has been going through in recent years.
